Bone Regeneration in London
Gum disease results in the loss of bone around your teeth. Using the latest technology, and specialised surgical techniques, we can regrow your bone. At your consultation we will fully assess your teeth and surrounding bone to see if this is a possibility for you.
-
Bone regeneration is the process of re-growing the bone around your teeth.
Bone loss around your teeth leads to loose teeth, and the early loss of your tooth. By re-growing part of your bone, we may be able to prolong the life of your teeth!
-
The procedure in the dental chair takes approximately one-two hours.
-
We will let the area heal for at least three months before assessing the health of the gum around the tooth. To assess if the bone has re-grown, we will need to wait one year to see reliable results on the x-rays.
-
Re-growing bone is a very delicate procedure, and therefore the ideal conditions need to be present for it to be successful.
Smoking and poorly controlled diabetes’s and other health problems are common reasons for an unsuccessful result. The bone itself also needs to be the correct type of defect for success. At your consultation we will fully assess your risk factors and the bone around your teeth to let you know how much is possible for you.
-
Using the latest technology and cutting edge techniques, we are able to re-grow some areas of bone loss.
We mainly use one of two techniques.
Emdogain Growth Factors
These are growth factors that originally aided the growth of your tooth when you were a child! By applying the growth factor back to your tooth, we may be able to stimulate your own bone to regenerate.
Bone Grafts
The alternative technique is to place a bone graft around the tooth, and cover this with a membrane to fill the space of the lost bone. Again, this has shown to be effective in re-growing parts of your bone.
Both of the above materials are animal derivatives (Xenografts).
There are non-animal based products available on request.
